About This Event

Explore the extraordinary lives of real people in this engaging monthly book club. From historical figures to contemporary changemakers, we'll read and discuss a wide range of biographies and memoirs that inspire, challenge, and spark conversation.

What will we read?

You can read what you want!  This is an "Any Book" book club with a biography/autobiography flavour!  There are no assignments, you pick a book that looks interesting to you!

Then, join us to tell us what you've been reading about.  You will also find new books to add to your to-read list.

Ok, so how do I pick something to read?

  • Think of a celebrity or historical figure that you don’t know a lot about. This is your opportunity to learn more!

  • Pick a subject that interests you and look for books on important individuals.

  • Pick a subject you don’t find interesting and read a book on an important individual.

  • Browse the library catalogue

How does it work if we're all reading different books?

We all get a chance to tell the group about what we read, why we chose it, what is interesting, what we didn’t like, what was unexpected, and what you felt after reading. Look for interesting quotes or sections that you would like to share with the group. We will have questions to prompt discussion, but we also welcome natural conversation.

Tips:

  • Use bookmarks or sticky notes to make it easy to find the spot in your book you want to reference.

  • Make notes as you read so you remember what you want to talk about! (note the page number).

  • Look for a section that is so good you want to share it!

  • Bring a copy of the book you read so everyone can see the cover.

  • Come prepared to listen and ask questions of others.
