About This Event
Join us for a special storytime to celebrate Sikh Heritage Month. Children's author Gursharn Singh will be reading two of his books, The Secret of True Cleanliness: A Story from the Travels of Guru Nanak and The Missing Bowl: A Story from the Travels of Guru Nanak.
About the Author
Gursharn Singh is the author of two children's books on Sikhi inspired by Guru Nanak's journeys. He has extensive experience teaching young audiences as a Friday Punjabi school teacher and lead presenter at Sikhi camps. As a Staff Frontend Engineer, he combines his technical skills with a passion for education as the founder of maastarji.com, where he develops free digital resources and interactive games to make Sikhi learning accessible for diaspora families.
About the books:
The Secret of True Cleanliness: A Story from the Travels of Guru Nanak
Set in the historic city of Haridwar during the festival of Vaisakhi, this story follows Guru Nanak’s encounter with a man focused entirely on outward rituals. Through a gentle but powerful lesson, Guru Nanak teaches children that true purity comes from a kind heart and honest actions rather than physical rituals or social divisions. It is a timeless story about equality, dignity, and the importance of inner character.
The Missing Bowl: A Story from the Travels of Guru Nanak
Based on Guru Nanak’s travels to Jagannath Puri, this engaging story tells of his meeting with a teacher who uses pretense to impress others. By showing the community that true wisdom is not found through tricks or displays of piety, Guru Nanak emphasizes the values of honesty and Sewa (selfless service). This book encourages young readers to value integrity and authentic goodness in their daily lives.
