About This Event

Understanding your rights as a tenant is essential to maintaining safe, stable, and respectful housing. Many tenants experience issues such as unaddressed repairs, illegal rent increases, harassment, or pressure to move out—often without realizing that Ontario law provides strong protections against these practices.

This Tenant Rights workshop is designed to help renters understand their legal protections under Ontario’s Residential Tenancies Act in clear, practical terms. We will discuss key tenant rights, including the right to a habitable home, privacy, proper notice, freedom from unlawful eviction, and protection from retaliation. The session will also explain what tenants can do when their rights are violated and how to document, report, and resolve disputes effectively.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be better equipped to recognize when their rights are being infringed, communicate confidently with landlords, and take informed steps to protect their housing and well-being. Knowing your rights is the first step toward housing stability and empowerment.
