About This Event

A Practical, Parent-Friendly Guide

Reading is one of the most important skills children learn in school—and for many families, it can also be one of the most stressful. If reading feels hard for your child, it can quickly affect confidence, motivation, and learning across all subjects.

The good news? Parents make a powerful difference.

Join us for an informative, supportive, and encouraging workshop designed especially for parents. Led by a Registered Psychologist with extensive experience in literacy development, this session will help you:

  • understand how reading develops
  • why some children struggle
  • what you can do at home—and with the school—to help your child grow into a confident reader

What You’ll Learn

  • How Children Learn to Read (in plain language!)
What do we actually mean by “reading”? Learn the key building blocks of reading and how they fit together. Discover simple, practical ways to support your child’s reading skills—without pressure or nightly battles. You’ll learn why reading improves through how it’s taught, not just how much kids read.

  • Reading Difficulties: What Parents Should Know
We’ll talk about common reading difficulties, help normalize struggles, and reduce stress for both parents and children. You’ll learn how evidence-based reading instruction works and how to support your child so challenges can be overcome.

  • Supporting Reading at Home (Without Becoming the Teacher!)
Learn realistic, low-stress ways to help your child build skills and confidence at home—while keeping reading positive and even enjoyable.

  • Working With Your Child’s School
Get practical tips for communicating with teachers and school teams, asking the right questions, and building a strong, collaborative partnership so your child gets the support they need.

Why Attend?

  • This workshop is designed to demystify reading, reduce anxiety, and empower parents with knowledge and confidence. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your child’s reading journey, practical tools you can use right away, and reassurance that you are already an important part of your child’s success.

Let’s make reading supportive, doable, and even fun—for both you and your child.
