Repair 101: General Repair

Learn repair basics to reduce waste and extend your household items' lifetime!

Not sure where to start when something breaks? Repair 101 is a beginner friendly introduction to the basics of everyday repair. Learn how to assess a broken item, identify common problems, choose the right tools and approach repairs with confidence.

Through hands on demonstrations and practical examples, you will learn simple troubleshooting techniques and discover how small repairs can help extend the life of the things you use every day.

Participants can learn

• How to assess a broken item and identify the problem
• How to use common hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches and Allen keys
• How to choose the right tool for the job
• How to safely take an item apart and put it back together
• How to identify common fasteners and components
• Basic troubleshooting and problem solving techniques
• How to determine what parts or materials may be needed
• How to know when something can be repaired and when professional help may be needed

Each participant may bring one item to the workshop to work on with the guidance of the instructor.

This is a learning focused workshop, not a repair service. You will learn how to assess your item, understand how the repair works and develop practical skills that you can use to repair similar items yourself in the future.

While our instructor will provide guidance and support, there is no guarantee that your item will be repaired or that the repair can be completed during the workshop. Some items may require additional parts, tools, time or specialized knowledge.

The goal is for you to leave with new repair skills and the confidence to tackle future repairs yourself.
