Get ready for a night of garage-rock grit, surf-punk grooves, post-punk energy and unforgettable vocal harmonies as Lithuanian trio Shishi comes to Harmony Hall with support from Stouffville’s own Ruby Tuesday.

Shishi — Benedetta, Victoria and Teresa — have carved out a distinctive sound somewhere between garage rock, surf, post-punk, riot grrrl and indie pop. Their music brings to mind the spirit of Delta 5 and The Slits, with a playful, wonky edge and the kind of vocal harmonies that make their sound instantly recognizable.

Named Alternative Act of the Year at the 2021 M.A.M.A. Awards, Shishi’s music captures the strange feeling of living in a world where nothing quite seems to make sense anymore — turning that uncertainty into sharp, energetic and wildly infectious songs.

Their evolution from NA x 80 (2018), through MAFITISHEI (2020), to Nearly Happily Ever After (2022) has seen the trio continually refine their garage-rock-meets-post-punk sound while building an international following.

Now they’re bringing their high-energy live show to Harmony Hall for a special night of alternative music.

Opening the night is Ruby Tuesday, a female acoustic duo based right here in Stouffville, Ontario. Known for their wide-ranging set of fan favourites and ’90s rock and pop, Ruby Tuesday has built a reputation for getting audiences singing along.

The duo has performed at events throughout York Region, including the Stouffville Terry Fox Run, Richmond Hill Canada Day, Markham Museum’s Applefest and Wintersong Music Festival, as well as local bars and festivals. Most recently, Ruby Tuesday was named a Diamond Winner for Favourite Local Band in the York Region Readers’ Choice Awards.
