Diwali, the festival of lights, falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026. The five days of festivities run from Dhanteras on Friday, November 6 to Bhai Dooj on Tuesday, November 10. York Region celebrates with community galas, temple programs, cultural performances and rangoli and lamp-making at the public libraries. What is Diwali?
Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated by Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities. Families light diyas (oil lamps), draw rangoli, share sweets, and gather for prayers, meals and fireworks. Sikhs mark Bandi Chhor Divas at the same time.
