Question 1

What events are happening in Markham this weekend?

Accepted Answer

Weekend events in Markham range from free library programs to cultural festivals and markets. Markham Public Library runs storytimes, STEM workshops, and fitness classes across its branches, including Aaniin, Angus Glen, Cornell, Milliken Mills, and Unionville. Historic Unionville Main Street hosts seasonal markets and festivals through the warmer months, while the Flato Markham Theatre and the Varley Art Gallery add concerts and exhibitions year-round. The Markham Civic Centre and Markham Museum also host larger seasonal celebrations and community gatherings. York Happening updates its Markham listings daily — use the 'This Weekend' filter on this page to see every confirmed Saturday and Sunday event, or filter by a category such as Family & Kids to narrow things down. Most weekend library and community-centre programs are free, though some require advance registration with the organizer.

Question 2

Where can I find free events in Markham?

Accepted Answer

Free events make up the majority of Markham's weekly calendar. Markham Public Library offers no-cost programs nearly every day — children's storytimes, conversation circles, tech help, and teen clubs across all branches. The City of Markham and local community groups run free seasonal festivals, outdoor movie nights, and celebrations at venues like the Markham Civic Centre and Too Good Pond in Unionville. The Markham Museum and the Varley Art Gallery also schedule free admission days and family programming throughout the year. To find them, select the 'Free Events' filter at the top of this page — every listing marked free is checked against the organizer's posting. York Happening adds new Markham events daily, so checking back each week or subscribing to the weekly newsletter is the easiest way to catch free activities before registration fills up.

Question 3

What are the most popular types of events in Markham?

Accepted Answer

Markham's event calendar reflects one of Canada's most culturally diverse cities. The most popular categories on York Happening are family and kids' programs, cultural festivals, arts and culture, and food events. Recurring favourites include library programming across Markham Public Library's eight branches, performances at the Flato Markham Theatre, exhibitions at the Varley Art Gallery in Unionville, and hands-on history programs at the Markham Museum. In summer, Unionville Main Street and area parks fill with markets, concerts, and multicultural festivals celebrating the city's many communities. Through winter, activity shifts indoors to community centres, libraries, and holiday markets. Browse the category chips on this page to explore each type, or start with Family & Kids and Festivals — they consistently carry the largest number of upcoming Markham listings.
