Question 1

What events are happening in Newmarket this weekend?

Accepted Answer

Newmarket's weekends revolve around its historic downtown and waterfront parks. Main Street Newmarket hosts markets, festivals, and seasonal celebrations through much of the year, with Riverwalk Commons next door offering outdoor skating in winter and splash-pad and concert events in summer. The Newmarket Farmers' Market runs Saturday mornings at Riverwalk Commons from spring through fall. Newmarket Public Library adds free weekend storytimes, workshops, and clubs, while Fairy Lake Park hosts community festivals and family events through the warmer months. The Newmarket Theatre and Old Town Hall round out the calendar with performances and exhibitions. York Happening updates Newmarket listings daily — use the 'This Weekend' filter on this page to see confirmed Saturday and Sunday events, or browse by category. Many downtown and park events are free to attend.

Question 2

Where can I find free events in Newmarket?

Accepted Answer

Free events are a Newmarket strength, thanks to its compact, walkable downtown. Riverwalk Commons offers free outdoor skating in winter and free concerts and splash-pad days in summer, while Main Street's seasonal festivals and the Saturday farmers' market (spring through fall) cost nothing to browse. Newmarket Public Library runs free programs most days — storytimes, tech help, teen clubs, and conversation circles. Fairy Lake Park hosts free community festivals and celebrations through the warmer months, and Old Town Hall regularly offers free or low-cost exhibitions. Select the 'Free Events' filter at the top of this page to see every no-cost Newmarket listing, verified against the organizer's posting. New events are added daily, and York Happening's weekly newsletter flags the best free activities each week.

Question 3

What are the most popular types of events in Newmarket?

Accepted Answer

Newmarket's most popular events cluster around community, family, and food. The historic Main Street and Riverwalk Commons anchor the calendar — farmers' markets, street festivals, outdoor concerts, and holiday celebrations draw the biggest crowds. Family programming is strong year-round through Newmarket Public Library and the town's community centres, while Fairy Lake Park hosts annual traditions and outdoor festivals. The Newmarket Theatre brings touring performances and local productions, and Old Town Hall adds gallery exhibitions and cultural programming. Seasonally, winter brings outdoor skating and holiday markets downtown; summer shifts to concerts, markets, and waterfront family events. Browse the category chips on this page to explore each type — Community and Family & Kids consistently carry the most upcoming Newmarket listings on York Happening.
