The York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit has charged four youths and recovered seven stolen vehicles. This follows an investigation, named Project Howler, into residential break and enters to commit vehicle thefts across York Region and neighboring areas.

The investigation began after police noted numerous incidents where suspects entered homes to steal keys for luxury vehicles. Over several weeks, investigators identified a group of suspects linked to a network believed to be responsible for over 50 break-in and vehicle theft incidents. Some incidents involved the brandishing of weapons, including firearms.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, investigators located the suspects in a vehicle reported stolen from Richmond Hill. Officers conducted a takedown in Toronto, leading to the arrest of three youths after a foot pursuit. Seven stolen vehicles were recovered. A fourth youth was charged on Friday, August 28, 2026. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are anticipated.
