Man Charged in Connection with Newmarket Incidents

York Regional Police have charged a man following a series of incidents in Newmarket.

York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau has charged a man in connection with multiple incidents in Newmarket.

On June 10, 2026, a man attended a residence near Prospect Street and Gorham Street and left a note with explicit messaging. On September 29, 2026, a man left a similar note in a mailbox at a residence near Eagle Street West and Davis Drive West.

On September 30, 2026, police responded to a report of a man prowling near a hotel in the area of Yonge Street and Davis Drive, using a cellphone flashlight. Officers arrested the suspect, identified as John Stuart Weir, 40, of no fixed address. Investigators determined Weir was also responsible for the earlier incidents.

Police believe there may be additional unreported incidents and ask anyone with information to contact York Regional Police.
