York Regional Police and Partners Launch Overdose Awareness Campaign

A month-long campaign in York Region aims to raise awareness about overdose prevention, response, and recovery.

By York Happening Newsroom

York Regional Police and community partners have launched "Your Region Cares," an awareness campaign focused on overdose prevention, response, local support access, and conversations about substance use and recovery. The campaign started on International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31, and will continue through National Recovery Awareness Month in September.

The initiative involves York Regional Police, York Region Public Health, Paramedic Services, Addiction Services Central Ontario, The Farm Rehab Stouffville, Vitanova Foundation, CAYR Community Connections, and the John Howard Society of York Region. The campaign will provide information on understanding overdoses, the use of naloxone, local programs, and supporting individuals affected by substance use.

Educational content will be shared on social media and online, with weekly spotlights on participating organizations and their services, which include emergency response, harm reduction, addictions counselling, peer support, treatment, and recovery. Residents can find information and resources on yrp.ca throughout the campaign. Naloxone is available at no cost at York Regional Police District buildings, participating Ontario pharmacies, and community organizations.
